It is evident that this description is insufficient for the identification of the plant. One can not be sure whether it is an ascogenious or imperfect form. The application of the name, if it is to be retained, must be determined by type or authentic specimens or its application by subsequent authors.

The interactions of fungi and chemical messenger molecules, hormones or pheromones, are addressed in this chapter. These interactions include mammalian fungal pathogens, also plant pathogens, or non-pathogenic fungi, which can result in functional responses in receptor- or non-receptor-mediated fashions.

The life cycle of the yeast Candida is characterized by rapid budding, maturation, and degeneration. Pathogenic species and strain differences are identified and these differences are important in the study of recurrent infections. The relationships between Candida and other fungi, and between Candida and hormones, are discussed.

Overview of Mycology, and the Mycology of Coccidioides immitis
1980Fungi are ubiquitous microorganisms found in terrestrial, freshwater, and marine habitats. Since they do not possess substances active in photosynthesis, they are limited to saprophytic, or symbiotic, or parasitic life cycles. The majority of fungus species are saprophytic and play an active role in the economy of nature by decomposing complex organic ...

Mycological examination is the diagnostic procedure necessary to confirm a fungal disease, from the Greek word “mykes” meaning mushroom. The mycological test is also necessary to document the complete cure response to treatment, as clinical recovery is often followed by a relapse if the fungus has not been completely eliminated from the skin ...

Yeasts occur commonly in the oral cavity in healthy individuals. The prevalent species is Candida albicans (about 60-70% of all isolates). C. glabrata and C. tropicalis come next, followed by other Candida species and genera (Rhodotorula, Saccharomyces, etc.) which are all of rare occurrence and transient.
