Nicotine mydriasis

Drug and Alcohol Dependence, 1989
In mice, nicotine produces dose-dependent mydriasis following interperitoneal or intracerebroventicular administration but not after local application through the conjunctival sac. Since mydriasis is not prevented by cervical sympathectomy, it is likely to be due to central inhibition of the parasympathetic tone.

Moisture and mydriasis

Practical Neurology, 2013
A 31-year-old female was admitted to the hospital for a pericardectomy secondary to constrictive pericarditis. On the fourth postoperative day, neurology was urgently consulted because of an alarming acute wide pupil. She had no headache, ocular pain, diplopia, ptosis or other neurologic symptoms.

Mydriasis and heredity*

Clinical Genetics, 1977
Routine ophthalmoscopy and fundoscopy of 673 individuals revealed 42 whose irides failed to dilate to a clinically useful degree within 25 to 30 min after the administration of drops of 1% mydracil. These individuals occurred with different frequency among the Aymara, Mestizo, and non‐Aymara groups which made up the sample of examinees.

Bilateral Congenital Mydriasis

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1976
A 73-year-old white woman with bilateral congenital mydriasis had no other obvious abnormalities. The pupils reacted almost imperceptibly to light. There was no detectable reaction to accommodation and convergence. Pupillary response to pilocarpine 4% solution indicated the presence of the sphincter muscle. However, the failure of the pupil to react to

Morphine mydriasis in mice

Life Sciences, 1979
Abstract In mice, morphine produces dose-dependent mydriasis. The mydriatic effect does not depend upon the integrity of the sympathetic system, and interference with central catecholamines or serotonin also does not abolish the response. Ro 4-1284, a neurotransmitter depletor, causes miosis and inhibits completely the response to morphine.

Enkephalin mydriasis in mice

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1980
Morphine is known to produce mydriasis in mice. We have found that enkephalins caused a similar effect. Morphine was twice as active as D-Ala-D-Leu-enkephalin (BW-180C), 5 times as active as Met-enkephalin and 7 times as active as Leu-enkephalin. The time course of the effect was shortest for the enkephalins ( t 1/2 = 8-12 min), intermediate for BW ...
