Myenteric plexus in hypertrophied intestine

Journal of Neuro-Visceral Relations, 1971
In six healthy mongrel dogs, hypertrophy of the ileum was induced by experimental stenosis. The number, size and morphological appearance of myenteric ganglion cells in the hypertrophic ileal segments were compared with those in corresponding segments of twelve normal control animals. The following observations are reported. 1.

Myenteric plexus in spastic motility disorders

Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2001
Previous studies have often revealed an absence or reduction of ganglia in Auerbach's plexus in many patients with achalasia, which has been postulated to be related to the elevated lower esophageal sphincter pressure in these patients. We undertook a prospective study to determine whether microscopic changes were present in the myenteric plexus of ...

Adrenosensitive neurons of the myenteric (Auerbach's) plexus

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1977
Experiments were conducted on the myenteral plexus of the isolated stips of the small and large intestine; the presence of adrenosensitive cells which reacted to the application of different adrenaline (A) and noradrenaline (NA) concentrations by a distinct acceleration of the activity rhythm was demonstrated.

Familial absence of myenteric plexus (congenital megacolon)

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1965
Six families with agenesis of myenteric plexus are described, including monozygotic twins. Out of 6 families reported in 4 instances there were long segments as well as short segments. Parents of a child with Hirschsprung's disease should be advised that the probability of another sibling having the disease is rather unlikely (in the range of 2 to 3 ...

Peripheral nerve fibres regenerate through myenteric plexus

Neuroscience Letters, 1987
The ability of myenteric glia and neurons to support peripheral nerve regeneration was tested by grafting pieces of muscularis externa 5 mm long from the distal colon of inbred CBA mice adjacent to the proximal stump of cut common peroneal nerves. By two weeks after operation many axons had invaded the plexus and after 3 weeks regeneration common ...

[ 3 H]Morphine Localization in Myenteric Plexus

Science, 1976
Preferential binding of 3 H-labeled morphine to satellite cells, but not to large neurons in the myenteric plexus, is demonstrated autoradiographically. Microfluorometric spectra of the plexus show nerve fibers that contain norepinephrine and impinge on satellite cells.
