A novel parakeet‐selective feeder for control of invasive psittacines

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2023
Over 40 species of parrots, members of order Psittaciformes, have established nonnative populations globally. Monk parakeets (Myiopsitta monachus) are among the most invasive bird species worldwide.

Heterospecific nest material kleptoparasitism: observations of grey herons, Ardea cinerea, removing material from the nests of monk parakeets, Myiopsitta monachus

Gastropod species found in birds' nests from Argentina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Los nidos de aves son ejemplos de hábitats ocupados por un conjunto de invertebrados, como insectos, arañas, pseudoescorpiones, etc. Por primera vez se presenta una lista de gasterópodos encontrados en nidos aviarios de la Argentina.

Morpho‐functional analyses of the jaw apparatus in the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna, Psittaciformes, Aves): Adaptations to feeding behavior

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Macaws are renowned for processing dry, mechanically resistant fruits, yet the species‐level anatomical and functional correlates of this performance remain incompletely resolved. We examined the feeding apparatus of the Blue‐and‐yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) using an integrated approach that combines osteology, myology, and bite‐force estimates

Ontogeny of foraging behaviour in an opportunistic gull inhabiting urban marine ecosystems

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Urbanization affects ecosystems by reducing biodiversity and displacing species from native habitats. While some suffer, others, like urban wildlife, adapt through innovative feeding and behaviours that improve their fitness in human‐altered settings. Despite research on wildlife in urban areas, the development of foraging behaviour in urban species is

Fine‐scale genetic structure in co‐operatively breeding Palmchats (Dulus dominicus) suggests mixed kinship in compound nests

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
Fine‐scale genetic structure in animal populations can create opportunities for both kin‐directed co‐operation and kin competition. Knowledge of kinship is therefore key to understanding the selective pressures shaping sociality as well as the effects of social behaviour on local genetic structure.

AIR SAC ADENOCARCINOMA OF THE STERNUM IN A QUAKER PARROT (MYIOPSITTA MONACHUS) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2014
Respiratory neoplasia is rarely reported in avian species. A 17-yr-old Quaker parrot (Myiopsitta monachus) was admitted with a 2-wk history of anorexia, depression, and respiratory distress. Clinical examination revealed a large, firm mass in the left pectoral muscle. Radiology showed a mass silhouetting the heart and the liver.
