Use of NTCP metrics to identify unbalanced levels of dose trade‐off between left lung and heart in lung cancer radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 26, Issue 9, September 2025.
Abstract Introduction The aim of this study is to determine the optimal level of dose trade‐off between left lung and heart during plan optimization in lung cancer radiotherapy, and also to examine the impact of planning target volume (PTV) size in reducing the overall risk of toxicity of lung and heart.

Preconditioning With TGF‐β Inhibitors Enhances Therapeutic Efficacy of Endothelial Progenitor Cells for Wound Healing in Diabetic Mice

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2025.
In this study, we explore a novel and efficient preconditioning method that induced EPCs‐like cells from hUVECs. TGF‐β inhibitors–treated hUVECs demonstrated significantly enhanced cell activity and tube‐forming ability under nutrient‐deficient and high‐glucose‐containing diabetic wound simulation conditions.

The Role of Other Major Postoperative Complications in Determining Outcomes of Acute Kidney Injury After Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 69, Issue 8, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) and is associated with worse outcomes. It remains unclear whether AKIs impact on prognosis can be attributed to other concurrent major complications.

Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction precedes cardiovascular disease and all‐cause mortality: 11‐year follow‐up in the ADDITION‐PRO study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 27, Issue 9, Page 5147-5159, September 2025.
Abstract Aim We aim to determine the impact of multiday heart rate variability (HRV) on the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), heart failure and mortality in people at high risk of diabetes. Materials and Methods Multiday HRV and mean heart rate (mHR) were measured in 1627 participants from the ADDITION‐PRO study between 2009 and 2011.
