Criterion Validity of the Isometric Contraction Test for Diagnosis of Axis I DC/TMD Considering Specific Muscles

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, Volume 52, Issue 11, Page 1990-1999, November 2025.
This study investigates the criterion validity of the Isometric Contraction Test (ICTest) for the diagnosis of Axis I DC/TMD, with a focus on specific masticatory muscles. The test yielded higher diagnostic accuracy for the masseter and temporalis muscles compared to the medial pterygoid, particularly when assessing the referred myofascial pain subtype.
