Pauropoda (Myriapoda) from Canada

Twenty-three species of Pauropoda are reported from Canada. They belong to seven genera in two families, Pauropodidae and Brachypauropodidae. A new genus, Amphipauropus, is proposed for Cauvetauropus rhenanus Huther, a close relative of which has been found in Canada.

Myriapods play a pivotal role in current debates about the interrelationships of life's most diverse clade, the Arthropoda. Whether myriapods are most closely related to hexapods, sister to a crustacean-hexapod clade, or are sister to Chelicerata each finds support from different classes of evidence in contemporary literature.

The bachelor thesis deals with diploid numbers of chromosomes, their morphology and chromosome mechanism of sex determination in four classes of the subphylum Myriapoda. Attention is also paid to mutual phylogenetic relationships within the subphylum.
