Investigating the learning curve in endoscopic compared to microscopic myringotomy and ventilation tube insertion

Journal of Laryngology and Otology, 2020
Objective Rate of learning is often cited as a deterrent in the use of endoscopic ear surgery. This study investigated the learning curves of novice surgeons performing simulated ear surgery using either an endoscope or a microscope.

Myringotomy Tube Inserter

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1966
THE USE of plastic tubing to maintain a myringotomy opening in the tympanic membrane as a treatment for serous otitis is advocated by several authors. 1-3 The purpose of this article is to describe a new instrument to facilitate the insertion of these tubes. Several types of myringotomy tubes have been designed. Armstrong 1 recommends a straight tube;

Myringotomy Knife for Pyloromyotomy

Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2010
Laparoscopic pyloromyotomy is a common procedure for treating infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Since 2006, we have been using miniature otolaryngologic instruments for pyloromyotomy due to a shortage of arthroscopic blades in our Medical Center.

Could radiofrequency myringotomy be an alternative to incisional myringotomy?

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2008
To evaluate the usefulness of radiofrequency myringotomy (RFM) and the closure time of the myringotomy site in comparison to incisional myringotomy (IM).We performed conventional surgical myringotomy on the right ears and RFM on the left ears of 40 rabbits.

Laser Myringotomy (L-Myringotomy) and Ventilating Tubes: A Preliminary Comparative Study

Lasers in Medical Science, 1999
A prospective comparative study was done to assess the validity of laser myringotomy (L-myringotomy) when compared to the insertion of ventilating tubes (VT). In 23 children with chronic otitis media with effusion, a VT was inserted in the left ear while a laser myringotomy was performed in the right ear by using the CO2 Sharplan 1030 laser.
