Phytochemical investigation of the heartwood of Myristica malabarica has led to the isolation of the new 7,4'-dimethoxy-5-hydroxyisoflavone together with two other isoflavones, biochanin A and prunetin, and a 1,3-diarylpropanol and a rare alpha-hydroxydihydrochalcone.

[Direct identification of Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp. by FTIR].

To directly and accurately identify Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp.Fourier transform infrare(FTIR) spectrum method was used.There were obvious differences between the FTIR spectrums of above-mentioned plants.Myristica fragrans and Myristica sp. were identificated by FTIR directly, fast and accurately.

Cytotoxic Acylphenols from Myristica maingayi

From the cytotoxic AcOEt extract of the fruits of Myristica maingayi, a Myristicaceae, five new acylphenols (promalabaricones B and C, maingayic acids B and C, and maingayone) were isolated, together with the known malabaricones A-C. The structures were determined from spectral analysis, including mass spectrometry and 2D NMR.

Abstract Nutmeg, the seed of Myristica fragrans, contains 25%40% of fatty oils (nutmeg butter), 8%-15% of volatile oils, and 45%-60% of structural materials including cellulose (23,24 ). Nutmeg was used in India and Arab countries as a spice and as a remedy but was unknown to the Greeks and Romans.
