The Crematogaster (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Myrmicinae) of Costa Rica [PDF]
The taxonomy and natural history of the ant genus Crematogaster are reviewed for the Costa Rican fauna. Thirtyone species are known, and a key is provided for these and two additional species from adjacent regions of Panama. Species boundaries are evaluated over their entire range when possible.

ABSTRACT Ants display a diversity of social structures reflected by differences in caste, nest, and colony organization. Previous research has shown that highly eusocial insects (Hymenoptera) exhibit genome‐wide signatures of relaxed selection due to their smaller effective population sizes.

The sting apparatus and pygidium are described for eight of 20 Lordomyrma species and one of five Mayriella species. The apparatus of L. epinotaiis is distinctly different from that of other Lordomyrma species.
