Effects of abiotic restoration through rock addition on invertebrate functional diversity in native temperate grasslands

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 7, September 2024.
Invertebrates account for over 90% of all described species and provide crucial ecosystem services. Land clearing, including the removal of abiotic habitat features, threatens invertebrate biodiversity, making environmental restoration crucial for conservation.

Seed‐predation and dispersal by ants determine plant‐species dominance and diversity in a semi‐arid grassland

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 35, Issue 3, May/June 2024.
Granivorous ants affect plants negatively through predation and positively by dispersal. Compared with ant exclosures, plots with ants had lower richness and increased dominant species diversity. When exposed to ants, the species that increased in density were those whose aggregation increased, suggesting that positive effects of ants are not related ...

Three endemic Aphaenogaster from the Siculo-Maltese archipelago and the Italian Peninsula: part of a hitherto unrecognized species group from the Maghreb? (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae)
