L'omoplate et la vertèbre d'un grand Cétacé actuel ont été trouvées fortuitement grâce à un article de la presse locale. Leur étude détaillée montre qu'elles appartiennent à un Mégaptère, mysticète dont l'ostéologie est peu connue et qui est très rare dans les collections. Elles indiquent un individu de taille exceptionnelle.

AbstractThe mandible of a small whale, discovered in lower Miocene Gambier Limestone in a limestone quarry near Mount Gambier, South Australia, is described. Although preserving no diagnostic features in the strict sense, it lacks a character of modern mysticetes, and is tentatively referred to the extinct Family Cetotheriidae.
