ABSTRACT Seed defence priming is emerging as a novel, cost‐efficient and environmentally safe tool for pest management. It has been proposed as a means to uncouple the defence‐growth trade‐off in plants by enhancing defence responses with minimal fitness costs, but the mechanisms underlying this role remain elusive.

Silencing of two insulin receptor genes disrupts nymph-adult transition of alate brown citrus aphid [PDF]
Insulin receptors play key roles in growth, development, and polymorphism in insects. Here, we report two insulin receptor genes (AcInR1 and AcInR2) from the brown citrus aphid, Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus.

Highly pathogenic isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae attracted Drosophila suzukii. Identifying the responsible compounds for this attraction could help the development of these isolates for pest monitoring and overall pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Drosophila suzukii, commonly known as spotted wing drosophila (SWD), is a highly invasive and ...

Specific and Spillover Effects on Vectors Following Infection of Two RNA Viruses in Pepper Plants
Mixed infection of plant viruses is ubiquitous in nature and can affect virus–plant–vector interactions differently than single virus infection. While several studies have examined virus–virus interactions involving mixed virus infection, relatively few ...

Cytogenetic characterization of the holocentric chromosomes in the aphids Myzus varians and Myzus cerasi [PDF]
Cytogenetic investigations on the holocentric chromosomes of Myzus varians and Myzus cerasi have been carried out using silver staining and C-banding followed by chromomycin A3 (CMA3) and DAPI staining in order to improve our knowledge of these pest crop species and facilitate their identification. In M. varians C-banding pattern is pecu-: liar of each

Lecanicillium aphanocladii: a biocontrol agent against insect pests and phytopathogens
Recent research findings on the biocontrol potential of Lecanicillium aphanocladii fungus against insect‐pests and plant diseases were highlighted. This review indicates that several L. aphanocladii strains show great potential to be developed as multipurpose biocontrol agents active against several insect‐pests, plant diseases and plant parasitic ...
