J AnatA combined approach of osteology and histology was used to examine the cheek regions of dinosaurs. Strong evidence was found for a soft tissue in this region connecting the zygoma to the mandible, here named the ‘exoparia’. Abstract Unlike mammals, reptiles typically lack large muscles and ligaments that connect the zygoma to the mandible.
