Genetic variability was investigated in North American populations of the tree pathogenic fungi Nectria galligena and N. coccinea var. faginata. Genetic diversity was estimated by analysing RAPD and ribosomal DNA polymorphisms. The number of haplotypes was the maximum value in N.

Fungi causing apple storage rots in the Lower Elbe region were examined for resistance against the methyl benzimidazole carbamate (MBC) fungicide thiophanate-methyl. In Neofabraea perennans, the most important post-harvest pathogen, strains with sensitivity (EC50 = 0.07 ppm), intermediate resistance (EC50 = 1.0–3.4 ppm) or high resistance (EC50 > 400 ...

A review of apple canker caused by Neonectria ditissima is presented for Northwestern Europe with a focus on the Lower Elbe region (Northern Germany). Whereas conidia released by rainsplash are produced mainly from spring to autumn, the liberation of wind-borne ascospores peaks in autumn and/or early spring.
