Selectivity of N170 in the Left Hemisphere as an Electrophysiological Marker for Expertise in Reading Chinese

open access: yesNeuroscience Bulletin, 2012
The left-lateralized N170, an event-related potential component consistently shown in response to alphabetic words, is a robust electrophysiological marker for reading expertise in an alphabetic language.

N170 Sensitivity to Facial Expression: A Meta-Analysis

Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, 2015
The N170 component is the most important electrophysiological index of face processing. Early studies concluded that it was insensitive to facial expression, thus supporting dual theories postulating separate mechanisms for identity and expression encoding. However, recent evidence contradicts this assumption.

Source analysis of the N170 to faces and objects

NeuroReport, 2004
To clarify the neural sources for the face-sensitive N170, ERPs were recorded in 16 subjects viewing upright and inverted faces, and compared to seven object categories. Source analyses were performed for each category and each subject at the latency of the N170. Larger source intensities were found in the posterior superior temporal sulcus region (STS)
