Health Management Planning for Landscape Fire Smoke Events: A Literature Review and Suggested Human‐Centred Framework for Resource Development

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 4, December 2026.
Landscape fire smoke (LFS) events are increasing with climate change, placing priority populations at greater risk of health harm. A literature review across Australia, Canada and the United States found only four LFS health plans, revealing a critical gap. We propose a design thinking framework to co‐design tailored LFS health action plans.

Comparing Surgical and N95 Mask Use on Resting Oxygen Consumption in Healthy Young Adults [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Face masks reduce the spread of COVID-19, but their impact on respiratory physiology largely remains unknown. While some studies found that exercising while wearing cloth or surgical face masks has no effect on performance or muscle oxygenation, studies ...

Quantitative Fit Test of a 3D Printed Frame Fitted Over a Surgical Mask: An Alternative Option to N95 Respirator

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, 2022
Background. COVID‐19 has spread worldwide and caused severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) led to numerous dead cases. However, with the new COVID‐19 outbreaks, there is a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) especially ...

Hantavirus in Dentistry: Occupational Exposure Considerations and a Proposed Tiered Infection Prevention and Control Framework—A Narrative Review

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, Volume 12, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of this study is to synthesize evidence on hantavirus transmission and occupational exposure pathways relevant to dentistry, and to propose an evidence‐informed tiered infection prevention and control (IPC) framework that distinguishes established from theoretical risk.

N95 respirator and surgical mask effectiveness against respiratory viral illnesses in the healthcare setting: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Emergency Physicians Open, 2021
To examine the results, level of evidence, and methodologic quality of original studies regarding surgical mask effectiveness in minimizing viral respiratory illness transmission, and, in particular, the performance of the N95 respirator versus surgical ...

Atmospheric Aerosol Neurotoxicity and Parkinson's Disease: Mechanisms and Perspectives

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 9, September 2026.
Schematic overview of the pathways and pathological mechanisms connecting atmospheric aerosol exposure to PD. Atmospheric aerosols, including PM2.5 and nanometer/ultrafine particles loaded with metal particles, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and dioxins, enter the body predominantly via pulmonary ...

3D Printed frames to enable reuse and improve the fit of N95 and KN95 respirators

open access: yesBMC Biomedical Engineering, 2021
Background In response to supply shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, N95 filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs or “masks”), which are typically single-use devices in healthcare settings, are routinely being used for prolonged periods and in some ...

Impact of the COVID‐19 Pandemic on Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices Related to Avian Influenza Among Poultry Workers in Cambodia

open access: yesInfluenza and Other Respiratory Viruses, Volume 20, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Live bird markets (LBMs) are high‐risk environments for the amplification and transmission of avian influenza viruses (AIVs). In Cambodia, limited data exist on knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among poultry workers, who represent a key occupational risk group.

Hidden Mould in the Air: A Practical Narrative Mini‐Review of Invasive Mould Infection Prevention for High‐Risk Patients and Clinicians

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Airborne mould spores, including those of the Aspergillus species, are ubiquitous both indoors and outdoors. While they are generally harmless, inhaled spores can cause severe infections, particularly invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, in patients with impaired immune defences.
