Ab-Initio Calculation of the Metal-Insulator Transition in Sodium rings and chains and in mixed Sodium-Lithium systems

open access: yes, 2004
We study how the Mott metal-insulator transition (MIT) is influenced when we deal with electrons with different angular momenta. For lithium we found an essential effect when we include $p$-orbitals in the description of the Hilbert space.

Superfluidity of identical fermions in an optical lattice: atoms and polar molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, we discuss the emergence of $p$-wave superfluids of identical fermions in 2D lattices. The optical lattice potential manifests itself in an interplay between an increase in the density of states on the Fermi surface and the modification of ...

Halloysite@polydopamine/ZIF-8 Nanocomposites for Efficient Removal of Heavy Metal Ions

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2023
In this study, polymeric nanocomposites of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) were synthesized by assembly of a biomimetic polymer-polydopamine (PDA)onto halloysite nanotubes (HNTs@PDA), followed by the in situ growth of zeolitic imidazolate ...

Leaf phenology determines the response of poplar genotypes to O3 through mesophyll conductance. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant J
Significance Statement Ozone‐induced reductions in the mesophyll conductance of poplar were caused by leaf structural acclimation in clones with fast leaf turnover, but by ABA in clones with longer leaf lifespans. SUMMARY Tropospheric ozone (O3) is a phytotoxic air pollutant that impairs photosynthesis.

The Role of NLRP1, AIM2 and MEFV Inflammasomes in the High‐Intensity Interval Training of Individuals With Obesity

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
This study shows that 8 weeks of high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) modulate inflammasome‐related gene expression in individuals with obesity. HIIT increased AIM2, MEFV, CARD16 and CARD18 expression, with CARD16 upregulation supporting reduced inflammation through inhibition of caspase‐1 activation and lower IL‐1β levels.

Tree Biomass Sensitivity to Ozone Exposure: Insights From a Decade of Free‐Air Experiments

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 2, February 2026.
Using a decade of free‐air controlled exposure (FACE) experiments across 17 woody taxa, we evaluated biomass responses to O3 uptake using flux‐based metrics. Increasing phytotoxic ozone dose (POD1) caused consistent declines in relative total (RTB), aboveground (RTAB), and belowground (RTBB) biomass.

P- Hydroxybenzyl Alcohol Alleviates Oxidative Stress in a Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Larval Zebrafish Model and a BRL-3A Hepatocyte Via the Nrf2 Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease, and it has gradually become the main disease burden in the world. However, the pathogenesis of NAFLD is complex, involving such things as dyslipidemia, oxidative stress ...

Low-dose ursodeoxycholic acid prolongs cholesterol nucleation time in gallbladder bile of patients with cholesterol gallstones [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The high rate of stone recurrence represents a drawback of non-surgical therapy of cholesterol gallstone disease. Although most studies report that long-term bile acid treatment does not have protective effects, preliminary results suggest that low-dose ...

Recycling of Spent Cathode Carbon from Aluminum Electrolysis: Detoxification Approaches, Resource Utilization, and Environmental Perspectives

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2026.
This review outlines the recycling of spent cathode carbon from aluminum electrolysis. Detoxification strategies, including molten salt roasting and ultrasonic‐assisted leaching, are depicted as effective approaches for removing hazardous components. The recovered carbon is further directed toward resource utilization, such as in lithium‐ and carbon ...
