This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Optimising chemical named entity recognition with pre-processing analytics, knowledge-rich features and heuristics [PDF]
The development of robust methods for chemical named entity recognition, a challenging natural language processing task, was previously hindered by the lack of publicly available, large-scale, gold standard corpora. The recent public release of a large chemical entity-annotated corpus as a resource for the CHEMDNER track of the Fourth BioCreative ...

Retractions in Rheumatology: Trends, Causes, and Implications for Research Integrity
Objective We aimed to describe the trends and main reasons for study retraction in rheumatology literature. Methods We reviewed the Retraction Watch database to identify retracted articles in rheumatology. We recorded the main study characteristics, authors’ countries, reasons for retraction, time from publication to retraction, and trends over time ...

Named Entity Recognition in Twitter using Images and Text
Named Entity Recognition (NER) is an important subtask of information extraction that seeks to locate and recognise named entities. Despite recent achievements, we still face limitations with correctly detecting and classifying entities, prominently in ...

Mining Web Sites Using Wrapper Induction, Named Entities, and Post-processing
This paper presents a new framework for extracting information from collections of Web pages across different sites. In the proposed framework, a standard wrapper induction algorithm is used that exploits named entity information that has been previously identified.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Learning the Morphological and Syntactic Grammars for Named Entity Recognition
In some languages, Named Entity Recognition (NER) is severely hindered by complex linguistic structures, such as inflection, that will confuse the data-driven models when perceiving the word’s actual meaning.
