The world's first anabolic‐androgenic steroid testing trial: A two‐phase pilot combining chemical analysis, results dissemination and community feedback

open access: yesAddiction, Volume 120, Issue 7, Page 1366-1377, July 2025.
Abstract Background and Aims The clandestine production and distribution of anabolic‐androgenic steroids (AAS) poses health risks due to the uncertainty of their contents. This study aimed to test the chemical content of AAS samples and provide aggregate results back to the community, exploring how these results influenced usage decisions and risk ...

Changing trends in anabolic‐androgenic steroid use within Scottish prisons: Detection, prevalence, and quantitation

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 6, Page 858-867, June 2025.
This study reports the qualitative and quantitative detection of anabolic‐androgenic steroids (AASs) in seized samples from prisons. Since 2022 there has been an increase in AAS detections with oxymetholone the most prevalent AAS, followed by metandienone, methyltestosterone, and oxandrolone.

Implication of human UGT2B7, 2B15 and 2B17 in 19-norandrosterone metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2013
Nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) is an anabolic androgenic steroid commonly abused for doping purposes. Nandrolone is mainly metabolized in the liver into 19-norandrosterone prior to glucuronidation and excretion through urine over an extended period of ...

Testis morphophysiology of rats treated with nandrolone decanoate and submitted to physical training - doi: 10.4025/actascihealthsci.v35i2.16406

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Health Sciences, 2013
The mammalian testis is a complex organ with endocrine and exocrine functions. It consists of seminiferous tubules where the production of the male gametes called spermatogenesis occurs. This process is influenced by a number of factors including the use

Comparative Analysis of Primary Sarcopenia and End‐Stage Renal Disease–Related Muscle Wasting Using Multi‐Omics Approaches

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Age‐related primary sarcopenia and end‐stage renal disease (ESRD)–related muscle wasting are discrete entities; however, both manifest as a decline in skeletal muscle mass and strength. The etiological pathways differ, with aging factors implicated in sarcopenia and a combination of uremic factors, including haemodialysis ...
