Investigations on elastic properties and electronic structures of α-CoSn3 doped with Ni via first-principles calculations and nano-indentation measurements

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
The low-temperature α-CoSn3 intermetallic compound (IMC) doped with Ni is an important component at the interface between Sn-based solder and printed circuit boards, which largely controls the mechanical properties of solder joints.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Elastic modulus of claystone evaluated by nano-/micro-indentation tests and meso-compression tests

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2017
Toarcian claystone such as that of the Callovo-Oxfordian is a qualified multiphase material. The claystone samples tested in this study are composed of four main mineral phases: silicates (clay minerals, quartz, feldspars, micas) (≈86%), sulphides ...

Effect of Rolling Deformation on Creep Properties of FeCrAl Alloys

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2021
FeCrAl alloy is one of the most promising nuclear fuel claddings among many accident tolerant fuel (ATF) materials due to its excellent oxidation resistance and good mechanical properties. However, the effect of process conditions on the creep properties

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Influence of Geometric Design on Mechanical Performance of Auxetic Metastructure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Strategic geometric reinforcement transforms auxetic performance. This study evaluates 3D‐printed arrowhead metastructures, revealing that a modified design with local ring reinforcement suppresses premature failure to achieve superior energy absorption and structural efficiency.

Investigating the correlation between Nanoindentation and Vickers hardness of Ti6Al4V, pure copper and AISI316 stainless steel

open access: yesWasit Journal of Engineering Sciences
Nano-indentation test is the most popular hardness testing method because it can correlate to other materials' mechanical properties and is used in a narrow area or for materials with plastic deformation resistance that Vickers hardness cannot represent.
