Long Distance Coupling of a Quantum Mechanical Oscillator to the Internal States of an Atomic Ensemble [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We propose and investigate a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of a micro-mechanical oscillator coupled to the internal states of a distant ensemble of atoms.

Strain-induced structural transformation of a silver nanowire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have investigated the structural characteristics of the experimentally observed phase transition of a silver nanowire into a tube under tensile strain. In the simulations, atoms are allowed to interact via a model potential extracted from the modified

Nano-mechanical behavior of MnTiO3 ceramics

open access: yesMaterials Letters, 2019
Here we investigate the mechanical behavior of the MnTiO3 ceramic. Nanoindentation tests in a manganese titanate polycrystalline sample were performed using a Berkovich indenter with a tip radius of 150 nm. On applying the load, it shows the elastic and plastic behavior.

A novel reusable nanomechanics based protein biosensor with electrical manipulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
[[abstract]]A novel reusable biosensor of label-free biomolecular recognition based on the nanomechanics transduction in a micro-fabricated cantilever has been developed. The nanomechanics-based immunoassay biosensor was proven to be repeatedly used with

Shuttle-promoted nano-mechanical current switch [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2015
We investigate electron shuttling in three-terminal nanoelectromechanical device built on a movable metallic rod oscillating between two drains. The device shows a double-well shaped electromechanical potential tunable by a source-drain bias voltage.

Modal Decomposition in Goalpost Micro/nano Electro-mechanical Devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have studied the first three symmetric out-of-plane flexural resonance modes of a goalpost silicon micro-mechanical device. Measurements have been performed at 4.2K in vacuum, demonstrating high Qs and good linear properties.

DNA nano-mechanics: how proteins deform the double helix

open access: yes, 2008
It is a standard exercise in mechanical engineering to infer the external forces and torques on a body from its static shape and known elastic properties. Here we apply this kind of analysis to distorted double-helical DNA in complexes with proteins.

Optical probes of molecules as nano-mechanical switches [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
AbstractMolecular electronics promises a new generation of ultralow-energy information technologies, based around functional molecular junctions. Here, we report optical probing that exploits a gold nanoparticle in a plasmonic nanocavity geometry used as one terminal of a well-defined molecular junction, deposited as a self-assembled molecular ...
