Three-dimensional graphene on a nano-porous 4H-SiC backbone: a novel material for food sensing applications

open access: yes, 2023
Sensors which are sensitive to volatile organic compounds and thus able to monitor the conservation state of food, are precious because they work non-destructively and allow to avoid direct contact with the food, ensuring hygienic conditions. In particular, the monitoring of rancidity would solve a widespread issue in food storage. The sensor discussed

Engineering Extracellular Vesicle Production Through Magnetic Ion Channel Activation for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic Ion Channel Activation (MICA) enables remote stimulation of mechanosensitive ion channels using functionalised magnetic nanoparticles, enhancing extracellular vesicle (EV) biogenesis is pre‐osteoblasts. MICA desrived EVs exhibit typical nano‐vesicular characteristics but display superior pro‐osteogeneic activity, promoting mesenchymal stem ...

Vertical porous 1D/2D hybrid aerogels with highly matched charge storage performance for aqueous asymmetric supercapacitors

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry
Asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) have attracted widespread attention because of their high energy density, high power density and long cycle life. Nevertheless, the development of anodes and cathodes with complementary potential windows and synchronous ...

The optical properties of transferred graphene and the dielectrics grown on it obtained by ellipsometry

open access: yes, 2018
Graphene layers grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method and transferred from Cu-foils to the oxidized Si-substrates were investigated by spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE), Raman and X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) methods.

Growth of nano-textured graphene coatings across highly porous stainless steel supports towards corrosion resistant coatings

open access: yesCarbon, 2015
Abstract In this paper, we demonstrated for the first time the growth of 3D networks of graphene nano-flakes across porous stainless steel substrates of micron sized metal fibres, and its anti-corrosion properties. The controlled formation of graphene-grade coatings in the form of single sheets to complex and homogeneously distributed 2–4 μm long ...

Thermo‐Fluorescent Bactericidal Quantum Dots Based Smart Multifunctional Textiles via Molecular Surface Engineering and 3D‐Printed Interlocked Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

A Review of Nanomaterials in Heavy-Oil Viscosity Reduction: The Transition from Thermal Recovery to Cold Recovery

open access: yesNanomaterials
Heavy oil and extra-heavy oil represent mobility-limited petroleum resources because supramolecular associations of asphaltenes and resins, together with strong interfacial resistance, generate extremely high apparent viscosity.

Ion-liquid based super-capacitors with inner gate diode-like separators

open access: yes, 2019
We demonstrate that the capacitance of ionic-liquid filled supercapacitors is substantially increased by placing a diode-like structure on the separator membrane. We call the structured separator: gate, and demonstrate that the order of a p-n layout with

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...
