Properties of nano silica modified rubbercrete

Abstract Inclusion of crumb rubber from scrap tires in concrete as partial replacement to fine aggregate in production of rubbercrete has provided many beneficial impacts to both environments and concrete. Many properties of rubbercrete are improved compared with conventional concrete.

Nano-Macro Correlation of Nano-Silica Concrete

Concrete mixes using progressively finer size nano-silica particles (7–150nm) were prepared to study the effect of nano-size pozzolans (nano-silica). Conventional compression tests demonstrated progressively higher strength with finer size of the nano-silica down to 12nm particle size.

Preparation of Silica Nano-Rods by CVD

The straight silica nano-rods with a diameter of about 200nm and smooth surface were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition method at 1300°C. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray, and transmission electron microscopy.

Preparation of Nano-silica and Nano-silicone

In this research, silica and silicon were prepared using glass waste. The preparation process consisted of several stages that started with the collection of crushed glass samples, treating them physically (grinding and granular sorting) and mixing granulated crushed glass with NaOH at ratios of 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3.

The effectiveness of nano-silica (NS) in preventing deleterious expansion associated with alkali-silica reaction (ASR) was assessed using concrete mixes made with two siliceous aggregates of different alkali-reactivity. Concrete mixes were also made using condensed silica fume as a reference mineral admixture.
