Synthesis and Characteristic of Precipitated Nano-Silica [PDF]

open access: yesJOURNAL OF ADVANCES IN CHEMISTRY, 2013
The reaction of precipitation of amorphous silicon dioxide from aqueous solution of sodium silicate and sulfuric acid has been studied. The factors affecting the precipitation process of the sodium silicate solution such as sodium silicate concentration and addition of anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) on particle size, size distribution

Nano-silica added to Portland cement

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2021
For a controlled particle size distribution, nano-silica was added to three different cements. The chemical and mineralogical compositions of the cements were characterized by fluorescence and X-ray diffraction.

Durability performances of concrete with nano-silica [PDF]

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2014
This study investigated the durability properties of concrete containing nano-silica at dosages of 0.3% and 0.9%, respectively. Due to the nano-filler effect and the pozzolanic reaction, the microstructure became more homogeneous and less porous, especially at the interfacial transition zone (ITZ), which led to reduced permeability.

The effect of silica morphology on properties of PVA/silica nano-composites

open access: yesChinese Journal of Polymer Science, 2013
Two kinds of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-silica composites were prepared with different methods. One composite was prepared by directly mixing PVA with 80 nm silica nano-particles which were made from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). The another was obtained by the mixing PVA and hydrolyzed TEOS in the presence of acid-catalyst.

Effects of Micro-silica and Nano-silica on Fresh Properties of Mortar

open access: yesMaterials Science, 2017
Like micro-silica (MS), nano-silica (NS) can also be considered as a supplementary cementitious material for production of high-performance mortar and concrete. To investigate the influence of MS and NS on the fresh properties of mortar or the mortar phase of concrete, an experimental program encompassing mortar mixes with various water, cement, MS and

Potential use of fly ash based nano silica as mineral additive to improve the mechanical properties of self-healing mortar

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Hydrogel-based self-healing mortar often experiences strength decrease that may impact concrete performance under mechanical load. While the addition of commercial colloidal nano silica can improve the strength of hydrogel-based self-healing mortar, they
