Fabrication, characterisation and performance of hydrophilic and super-hydrophilic silica as cell culture surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate a straightforward procedure for the controlled formation of silica films on tissue culture polystyrene (PS) surfaces. The films were formed by sequentially treating PS with polyaniline, glutaric dialdehyde and protein prior to silica ...

Silica Nano-Structured Fiber for Illumination [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
This paper describes a novel fiber designed to produce uniform illumination in angular space along its length. The mechanism of light extraction from the silica glass guiding region is due to nano-sized gas filled voids formed during fiber preform consolidation and fiber draw process.

Speckle‐Engineered Upconversion Amplification in Nanoemulsion‐Templated Hydrogel Microdomes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion‐confined PEGDA microdomes generate speckle‐like excitation fields that strongly amplify upconversion luminescence upon dehydration, enabling filter‐free visible readout with reversible on–off switching. DMD‐based lithography yields scalable, shape‐programmable arrays for moisture‐responsive displays and optical encryption.

Mechanical properties of three-phase polyamide 6 nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This work focus on the mechanical properties of three-phase nanocomposites using multiscale reinforcements. The influence of the nano-fillers content, as well as the temperature were studied. Polyamide-6 reinforced with short glass fibre 30 wt.% and with

Nano-basic silica as an efficient catalyst for the multi-component preparation of pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives

open access: yesMain Group Metal Chemistry, 2017
A high-yield protocol is explored for the synthesis of pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines through the multi-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, 1,3-Dimethylbarbituric acid, and malononitrile using nano-basic silica as an efficient catalyst.

Experimental investigation on the effect of nano-silica on reinforced concrete Beam-column connection subjected to Cyclic Loading

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Beam-column joints are crucial load transmission zones because they face concentrated forces from both the beams and the columns. High shear and axial stresses caused by these concentrated forces in the area of the joint may result in decreased joint ...

Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...
