Effect of Austempering Route on Microstructural Characterization of Nanobainitic Steel

Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters), 2014
A low-temperature nanobainitic steel was obtained through one-step and two-step austempering. The effect of austempering temperature, time, and route on bainitic lath width, volume fraction of retained austenite, carbon concentration in retained austenite, and nanohardness of bainitic lath and retained austenite was studied.

Electron beam hardening of nanobainitic steel

Surface Engineering
Nanobainitic steels with high Si content are very promising materials due to the very favourable combination of mechanical and functional properties. However, sometimes in order to achieve the required results, it is necessary to further increase the surface's layer hardness.

Application of Advanced Experimental Techniques for the Microstructural Characterization of Nanobainitic Steels

Solid State Phenomena, 2011
A 0.79C-1.5Si-1.98Mn-0.98Cr-0.24Mo-1.06Al-1.58Co (wt%) steel was isothermally heat treated at 350°C bainitic transformation temperature for 1 day to form fully bainitic structure with nano-layers of bainitic ferrite and retained austenite, while a 0.26C-1.96Si-2Mn-0.31Mo (wt%) steel was subjected to a successive isothermal heat treatment at 700°C for ...

Nanobainite formation in high-Al medium-Mn steels: thermodynamic approach

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry
AbstractThe objective of this study was to analyze the thermodynamic feasibility of forming nanobainite in Al-alloyed medium-Mn steels through intercritical annealing (IA) and subsequent heat treatments. The research aimed to determine the influence of IA temperature and Mn content on the stability of austenite, the Ms temperature, and the resulting ...

Characterization of Isothermally Heat-Treated High Carbon Nanobainitic Steels

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2013
Isothermal heat treatment close to the martensite-start temperature at various transformation times, followed by hardness and compression tests, has been performed for three new high carbon experimental nanobainitic steels. Microstructural characterization clearly revealed the formation of lower bainitic structures with plate thickness in the range of ...

Microplasticity behavior of multiphase high-strength nanobainitic steel based on a modified law of mixtures

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2021
Abstract The transformation of a metastable phase plays an important role in guaranteeing the excellent property of a material. However, this transformation introduces a new phase that contributes to the mechanical behavior, thereby making the calculation of the contribution of each phase to the material's stress and strain more complex.

Improved rolling contact fatigue life for an ultrahigh-carbon steel with nanobainitic microstructure

Scripta Materialia, 2014
In the present work, the influence of nanobainite on the rolling contact fatigue (RCF) performance of an ultrahigh-carbon steel has been studied. The results show that nanobainite can effectively improve the RCF life of the steel. In particular, the L10 life of specimens with 21 ± 1 vol.% nanobainite is approximately 3.3 times longer than that of ...

Effect of isothermal temperature and load on wear of nanobainitic cast steel

Materials Science and Technology
The wear behaviour of a nanobainitic cast steel: 0.76C-2.08Si-0.74Mn-0.79Cr (wt. %), isothermally treated at different temperatures, 250 and 300°C; have been investigated by pin on disk test in dry conditions. The tests were carried out at different loads: 2, 7, 12 and 15 N.
