Nanobeams with Internal Discontinuities: A Local/Nonlocal Approach

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
The aim of the present work is to extend the two-phase local/nonlocal stress-driven integral model (SDM) to the case of nanobeams with internal discontinuities: as a matter of fact, the original formulation avoids the presence of any discontinuities ...

Nanobeam photonic bandedge lasers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We demonstrate one-dimensional nanobeam photonic bandedge lasers with InGaAsP quantum wells at room temperature from the lowest dielectric band of photonic crystal nanobeam waveguides. The incident optical power at threshold is 0.6 mW (effectively ~18 μW).

Si3N4 nanobeam optomechanical crystals [PDF]

open access: yesCLEO: 2013, 2013
We demonstrate sideband-resolved Si 3 N 4 optomechanical crystals supporting 105 quality factor optical modes at 980 nm, coupled to GHz frequency mechanical modes. We also develop slot-mode-based geometries for enhanced optomechanical coupling and multimode applications.

Thermal stress and deformation analysis of a size-dependent curved nanobeam based on sinusoidal shear deformation theory

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2018
In this paper, the analytical approach for thermal stress and deformation analysis of a curved nanobeam is presented. The nanobeam is subjected to transverse mechanical and thermal loads while resting on Pasternak's foundation.

Analysis of the magneto-thermoelastic vibrations of rotating Euler–Bernoulli nanobeams using the nonlocal elasticity model

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2023
This paper introduces size-dependent modeling and investigation of the transverse vibrational behavior of rotating thermoelastic nanobeams by means of nonlocal elasticity theory.

Proliferation of metallic domains caused by inhomogeneous heating near the electrically-driven transition in VO$_2$ nanobeams [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We discuss the mechanisms behind the electrically driven insulator-metal transition in single crystalline VO$_2$ nanobeams. Our DC and AC transport measurements and the versatile harmonic analysis method employed show that non-uniform Joule heating ...

Nonlocal State-Space Strain Gradient Approach to the Vibration of Piezoelectric Functionally Graded Nanobeam

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2022
In this work, the state-space nonlocal strain gradient theory is used for the vibration analysis of piezoelectric functionally graded material (FGM) nanobeam.

Analysis of Large Deflection of Nanobeams with Circular Cross Section under Distributed Load Taking into Surface Effects [PDF]

open access: yesفناوری در مهندسی هوافضا, 2023
In the present study, the large deflection of nanobeams with surface effects has been investigated. The surface effects are modeled by using the generalized Young–Laplace equation.

Optimized optomechanical crystal cavity with acoustic radiation shield [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present the design of an optomechanical crystal nanobeam cavity that combines finite-element simulation with numerical optimization, and considers the optomechanical coupling arising from both moving dielectric boundaries and the photo-elastic effect.

Electrically driven nanobeam laser [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2013
The realization of lasers as small as possible has been one of the long-standing goals of the laser physics and quantum optics communities. Among multitudes of recent small cavities, the one-dimensional nanobeam cavity has been actively investigated as one of the most attractive candidates for effective photon confinement thanks to its simple geometry.
