The interactions between argon surface nanobubbles and AFM tips on HOPG (highly oriented pyrolitic graphite) in water and the concomitant nanobubble deformation were analyzed as a function of position on the nanobubbles in a combined tapping mode and force-volume mode AFM study with hydrophilic and hydrophobic AFM tips.

Nanobubble-Assisted Nanopatterning
2015In the previous chapter it was described how degassing aqueous solutions in contact with hydrophobic polymers open pathways for polymer surface patterning. In the absence of degassing, nanobubbles can nucleate on hydrophobic surfaces. In this chapter the structuring effect of nanobubbles on hydrophobic surfaces is discussed.
