Electrospinning of Nanocellulose-Based Materials
2014This chapter discusses the use of nanocellulose, mainly cellulose nanocrystals, as a reinforcing material in the construction of 3D fiber structures. Specifically, it illustrate the effect of nanocellulose in the synthesis of non-woven fiber mats after electrospinning aqueous and organic polymer solutions.

Nanocellulose and Nanocomposites
2016Nanocellulose is a class of fascinating bio-based nanomaterials with dimensions from few nanometers up to several micrometers depending upon the type of cellulosic fibers obtained from the source. Cellulose is a biopolymer present in huge amounts in the biosphere that mainly include the cell walls of green plants, bacteria, fungi, and tunicates.

Inhibiting Ice Recrystallization by Nanocelluloses
Biomacromolecules, 2019Biocompatible materials with ice recrystallization inhibition (IRI) activity have potential applications in several fields. Emerging studies have associated the IRI activity of antifreeze proteins/glycoproteins and several mimics of synthetic materials with a facially amphipathic structure.

Carboxylated nanocellulose foams as superabsorbents
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2019Carboxylated nanocellulose fibres formed into foam structures can demonstrate superabsorption capacity. Their performance can be engineered by changing process variables.TEMPO-oxidised cellulose nanofibres of varying concentration and surface charge are produced from hardwood kraft pulp.

Novel aspects of nanocellulose
Cellulose, 2014Novel nanoscaled cellulose particles were prepared using high-pressure homogenization of aqueous media contenting treated cellulose samples in a Microfluidizer® processor (MF). Here, we present the generation of spherical cellulose nanoparticles as an extension of previously published reports of nano fibrillated cellulose.

The forest industry is seeking new technological solutions and products. One very interesting possibility is the production and utilisation of cellulose nanofibers for new types of materials and novel applications. These new opportunities are being developed at the Finnish Centre of Nanosellulosic Technologies launched in spring 2008 by VTT, Helsinki ...
