Synergy between conventional phosphorus fire retardants and organically-modified clays can lead to fire retardancy of styrenics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Polystyrene–clay nanocomposites combined with phosphorous-containing fire retardants have been prepared and used to explore the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the polymer formed. The amounts of fire retardants and clay used were varied to

Microcellular Poly (Ethylene‐Co‐Vinyl Acetate)/Lignin Nanocomposites for Soft Ferroelectrets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin valorization for advanced porous polymer nanocomposites development and an upscaling route for continuous manufacturing of soft ferroelectrets for energy harvesting are studied. This work examines the role of lignin and carbon nanotubes (CNT) in modifying the mechanical, dielectric, and ferroelectret properties of poly (ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate)

Synthesis and Properties of Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, 2004
AbstractNanocomposites may exhibit new properties of technical interest. Technical applications require many particles, leading to interaction of the particles thwarting the performance of these materials. To exploit specific nano‐properties, the use of composites preventing the particles from interaction is necessary.

3D‐Printable Near‐Infrared‐Responsive Microscale Cantilever made of the Composite Consisting of Ceramic Particles and Graphene Flakes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A near infrared‐responsive microscale cantilever is developed using a 3D‐printable composite based on photocurable resin consisting of sepiolite and graphene flakes. The material absorbs 1064 nm light, causing shape transformation with an average displacement of 1.3 mm in 1.7 s. Displacement is measured via video recording.
