Ligand Displacement Exposes Binding Site Heterogeneity on CdSe Nanocrystal Surfaces

open access: yes, 2018
Nanocrystal-ligand interactions and ligand exchange processes are usually described by a uniform distribution of equal binding sites. Here, we analyze this assumption by a quantitative study of the displacement of Z-type cadmium oleate ligands from CdSe ...

Dynamic deformability of individual PbSe nanocrystals during superlattice phase transitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The behavior of individual nanocrystals during superlattice phase transitions can profoundly affect the structural perfection and electronic properties of the resulting superlattices.

Roulette‐Inspired Physical Unclonable Functions: Stochastic yet Deterministic Multi‐Bit Patterning through the Solutal Marangoni Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Geometric multi‐bit patterning based on dynamic wetting and dewetting phenomena creates roulette‐like Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) labels with stochastic yet deterministic properties. This method leverages the solutal‐Marangoni effect for high randomness while achieving deterministic multinary patterns through polygonal confinement of binary ...

Nanostructuring the SiOx layers by using laser-induced self-organization

open access: yesSemiconductor Physics, Quantum Electronics & Optoelectronics, 2017
The processes of laser-induced transformation of SiOx oxide layers into the nanocomposite ones were studied. The possibility of phase separation in the form of Si nanocrystals surrounded by corresponding SiO2 oxide matrix under irradiation by nanosecond ...

Scalable heating-up synthesis of monodisperse Cu2ZnSnS4 nanocrystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Monodisperse Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) nanocrystals (NCs), with quasi spherical shape, were prepared by a facile, high-yield, scalable, and high-concentration heat-up procedure.

Influence of nanocrystal size on the transport properties of Si nanocrystals [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 2008
In this study, we have investigated the carrier transport mechanism across silicon nanocrystals with the Al/p-Si/Si nanocrystals/Al structure. Sizes of silicon nanocrystals were controlled at diameters of ∼6, ∼8, and ∼11 nm. It is shown that the conductivity σ of silicon nanocrystals, both as-grown and annealed, exhibits σ∝exp[−(T0/T)]1/2 behavior ...

Chasing Charge Carriers: Diffusion Dynamics in Mixed‐n Quasi‐2D Colloidal MAPbBr3 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal halide perovskites are noted for their tunable optical properties. Colloidal synthesis allows the formation of differently shaped perovskite nanocrystals with varying optical and carrier transport behavior. Three MAPbBr3 morphologies are characterized: nanoplatelets, nanosheets, and nanostripes.

Structure and transformation of tactoids in cellulose nanocrystal suspensions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Cellulose nanocrystals obtained from natural sources are of great interest for many applications. In water, cellulose nanocrystals form a liquid crystalline phase whose hierarchical structure is retained in solid films after drying.

From Low Symmetry to High Dissymmetry: Chiral Plasmonic Films of Binary and Nanobipyramid Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work develops highly dissymmetric chiral plasmonic thin films by helically assembling gold nano bipyramids within a liquid‐crystal template. Engineering of the chiroptical response is achieved by varying particle size and geometry, as well as preparing binary assemblies.
