Mechanical and Nanomechanical Properties

open access: yes, 2007
The growing interest in nanomaterials over the past decade or so can be put down to their unique structure, characterised by grains with nanometric dimensions and by a rather high density of crystal defects, which will undoubtedly lead to quite exceptional properties. In particular, extrapolating the constitutive laws of large-grained materials down to

Thermonanomechanics of graphene oxide-M13 bacteriophage nanocomposites -towards graphene-based nanodevices

open access: yesCarbon Trends
The self-assembly of graphene oxide (GO) and M13 bacteriophage results in the formation of micro-porous structures, known as GraPhage13 aerogels (GPA). Given the limited applications of aerogels in industry due to their nanomechanical properties, along ...

Mechanical Characterization of Methanol Plasma Treated Fluorocarbon Ultrathin Films Through Atomic Force Microscopy

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
Methanol plasma has been proposed as an effective way to improve the performances of fluorocarbon (CFx) ultrathin films as stent coatings as it can successfully modulate fluorine content and wettability of the films.

The Nanomechanical Properties of Lactococcus lactis Pili Are Conditioned by the Polymerized Backbone Pilin.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Pili produced by Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis are putative linear structures consisting of repetitive subunits of the major pilin PilB that forms the backbone, pilin PilA situated at the distal end of the pilus, and an anchoring pilin PilC that ...

Nanoindentation of zirconium based bulk metallic glass and its nanomechanical properties

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Nanoindentation experiments with a Berkovich tip are performed on zirconium based bulk metallic glass (Zr-BMG, Zr65Cu15Al10Ni10) to study its deformation and mechanical properties (elastic modulus and hardness) at nanoscale. Further to reveal indentation-

On the Nanomechanical and Viscoelastic Properties of Coatings Made of Recombinant Sea Star Adhesive Proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering, 2021
To attach to surfaces in the sea, sea stars produce proteinaceous adhesive secretions. Sfp1 is a major constituent of this adhesive, where it is present in the form of four subunits (named Sfp1α to δ) displaying specific protein-, carbohydrate- and metal-

Evaluation of nano mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of diffusion welded CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy (MEA) and SUS 304 stainless steel joints

open access: yesRevista de Metalurgia, 2023
The study mainly focused on examining nanomechanical properties and corrosion behavior of the weld interface formed by diffusion welding of CoCrNi MEA and SUS 304 stainless steel. Three different bonding temperatures (i.e.

Near‐Infrared Light‐Driven Zn/Au Janus Micromotors for Multiplex SERS Detection of Anticancer Drugs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Zn/Au Janus micromotors, propelled by thermophoretic effects under NIR light, function as active SERS platforms for single and multiplex detection of anticancer drugs. Their dynamic motion enhances analyte exchange at the Au interface, reducing saturation and competitive adsorption, thereby improving sensitivity and extending the linear detection range.
