Development of an optical probe for evaluation of tool edge geometry
This paper proposes a non-contact and on-machine measurement method for evaluating tool edge geometry. In the proposed method, a focused laser beam having a diameter of several micrometres traces over the tool edge.

Exploring poly-L-lysine-based particle capture for atomic force microscopy studies of extracellular vesicles. [PDF]
Abstract We herein investigate the effects of varying the main experimental variables in one of the most used protocols for extracellular vesicle (EV) immobilisation on substrates for subsequent atomic force microscopy (AFM) quantitative morphometry and nanoindentation performed in liquid. We introduce the parameter Q as a quantitative measure of total

Quasi‐Static to Supersonic Energy Absorption of Nanoarchitected Tubulanes and Schwarzites
Nanoarchitected energy‐absorptive Tubulanes exhibit record energy absorption under quasi‐static conditions and exceptional inelastic energy dissipation under 750 m s−1 ballistics impact, with high performance spanning strain rates of 12 orders of magnitude.

Cutting Edge Height Measurement of a Rotary Cutting Tool by a Laser Displacement Sensor
This paper proposed a high speed and a high accuracy measurement method for the cutting edge height of a rotary cutting tool with respect to the reference surface on the tool by using a laser triangulation displacement sensor.

Effects of Curing on Photosensitive Resins in SLA Additive Manufacturing
Different mechanical properties characterise the materials of 3D printed components, depending on the specific additive manufacturing (AM) process, its parameters, and the post-treatment adopted.

Hierarchical nanomechanics of collagen microfibrils [PDF]
Collagen constitutes one third of the human proteome, providing mechanical stability, elasticity and strength to connective tissues. Collagen is also the dominating material in the extracellular matrix (ECM) and is thus crucial for cell differentiation ...

Nanothermometry in Living Cells: Physical Limits, Conceptual and Material Challenges
Heat and temperature are fundamental to life. When nanothermometers began probing regions as small as a living cell, they triggered controversial claims of large intracellular temperature gradients. We review physical constraints energy‐conservation, entropy production, thermodynamic fluctuations, and molecular dynamics.

Similarity Law on Shedding Frequency of Cavitation Cloud Induced by a Cavitating Jet
In order to clarify the mechanism of cavitation cloud shedding, the shedding frequencies of cavitation clouds were investigated by high-speed observations and image analysis. The results indicate that the shedding frequency follows the similarity law for
