High‐fundamental‐mode output of 1064 nm vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting laser using double embedded antiresonant oxide islands

open access: yesInformation &Functional Materials, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 118-129, June 2025.
A two‐junction 1064 nm VCSEL with double antiresonant oxide islands in the top DBR is designed to enhance fundamental transverse mode operation. By optimizing island count, aperture size, thickness, and position, it achieves 36.2 mW output power, 54.8% PCE, and a 33.06 GHz 3 dB bandwidth.

Attitude stability and altitude control of a variable-geometry Earth-orbiting solar sail [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A variable-geometry solar sail for on-orbit altitude control is investigated. It is shown that, by adjusting the effective area of the sail at favorable times, it is possible to influence the length of the semi-major axis over an extended period of time.

Synthesis of the optimal control law for the reorientation of a nanosatellite using the procedure of analytical construction of optimal regulators

open access: yes, 2021
The method is described in the article and an algorithm for the synthesis of the optimal control law for the reorientation of the nanosatellite using the procedure of analytical construction of optimal regulators is proposed.

Laser Terminals on CubeSats: Developments for Telecommunications and Quantum Links

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 133-146, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT Satellite‐based laser communication is an emerging technology that is finding its way from research to industry. Compared to radio frequency (RF) systems, it has a more efficient size, weight, and power budget and, furthermore, is license free.

Satellite Data in Agricultural and Environmental Economics: Theory and Practice

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 56, Issue 3, Page 493-511, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Agricultural and environmental economists are in the fortunate position that a lot of what is happening on the ground is observable from space. Most agricultural production happens in the open and one can see from space when and where innovations are adopted, crop yields change, or forests are converted to pastures, to name just a few examples.
