Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Global Aromaticity at the Nanoscale [PDF]

open access: yesNature Chemistry, 2019
Aromaticity is an important concept for predicting electronic delocalisation in molecules, particularly for designing organic semiconductors and single-molecule electronic devices. It is most simply defined by the ability of a cyclic molecule to sustain a ring current when placed in a magnetic field.

Roughness of Deposited Carbon-Based Coatings and Its Statistical Characteristics at Nano and Microscales

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
Topography of surfaces may influence many processes in tribology including friction and adhesion. Its influence is usually taken into account in various statistical models of rough surfaces.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Young’s Equation at the Nanoscale [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2013
In 1805, Thomas Young was the first to propose an equation to predict the value of the equilibrium contact angle of a liquid on a solid. Today, the force exerted by a liquid on a solid, such as a flat plate or fiber, is routinely used to assess this angle. Moreover, it has recently become possible to study wetting at the nanoscale using an atomic force

Nanoscale Electrochemical Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesAnalytical Chemistry, 2018
Surfaces and interfaces, of both practical and fundamental interest, have long been recognized to be complex, yet while there are many microscopy and spectroscopy methods for imaging structure, topography and surface chemical composition at high spatial resolution, there are relatively few techniques for mapping associated chemical fluxes in the near ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.
