Abstract We present observations from two field deployments of a calibrated tiltmeter that we name the Self‐Calibrating Tilt Accelerometer (SCTA). The tiltmeter is based upon a triaxial quartz crystal accelerometer; the horizontal channels measure tilt and are periodically rotated into the vertical to obtain a measurement of the acceleration of gravity.

At Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Site C0008 in the Nankai Trough slope sediment, we discovered in situ temperature anomalies at 80 to 160 m below the seafloor, where pore fluid Cl and δ 18O excursions were identified and interpreted as pore fluid refreshing due to hydrate dissociation.

Abstract Recently, integrated geophysical‐geological surveys in the Nankai subduction zone in Japan have revealed that slow earthquakes repeatedly occur beneath the outer wedge of the forearc. During December 2020 to February 2021, clustered slow earthquakes propagated around the frontal thrust of the accretionary wedge.
