Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Extended shells around B[e] stars - implications for B[e] star evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Aims. The position of B[e] stars in the upper left part of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram creates a quandary. Are these stars young stars evolving onto the main sequence or old stars that are evolving off of it? Spectral characteristics suggest that B[e]

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Narrow band imaging in detection of early laryngeal malignancy

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Otolaryngology
Introduction Narrow-band imaging (NBI) is an optical image enhancement technique that uses a narrow band light spectrum to improve the mucosa’s capillary surface.

[OII]3727 Emission from the Companion to the Quasar BR 1202-0725 at z=4.7

open access: yes, 2000
Results of a narrow-band imaging for the redshifted [OII]3727 emission around a quasar at z=4.7 obtained with the Subaru telescope and CISCO (a Cassegrain near infrared camera) are presented. A significant emission line is detected in the narrow-band H_2

Narrow‐band imaging pattern classification in oral cavity

open access: yesOral Diseases, 2018
AbstractObjectiveNarrow‐band imaging is widely used in the diagnostic work‐up of oral lesions. Different oral subsites present three epithelial types (1, 2a and 2b), each with a different structure and function. The aim of this study was to analyse and describe the different vascular patterns seen on narrow‐band imaging according to oral epithelial ...

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

The Halpha Luminosity Function of the Galaxy Cluster Abell 521 at z = 0.25

open access: yes, 2003
We present an optical multicolor-imaging study of the galaxy cluster Abell 521 at $z = 0.25$, using Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope, covering an area of $32 \times 20$ arcmin$^2$ ($9.4 \times 5.8 h_{50}^{-2}$ Mpc$^2$ at $z = 0.25$).
