The Role of Heated Humidified High-flow Nasal Cannula as Noninvasive Respiratory Support in Neonates

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2017
Recently, heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HHHFNC) has been introduced and applied as a noninvasive respiratory support in neonates. Although HHHFNC is widely used in neonates presenting with respiratory distress, the efficiency and safety when

Reintubation rates after extubation to different non-invasive ventilation modes in preterm infants

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2021
Introduction Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) is a common cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in premature newborns. In this study, we aim to compare the reintubation rate in preterm babies with RDS who were extubated to Nasal Continuous ...

Bi-PAP is not superior to NCPAP in the premature twins with respiratory distress syndrome: a prospective cohort study

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2022
Background: Recently, non-invasive ventilation has been widely used due to the reduction of adverse effects of endotracheal intubation. Nevertheless nearly no researches have compared the efficacy of non-invasive respiratory support between preterm twins.

Therapeutic alternatives with CPAP in obstructive sleep apnea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), characterized by airflow cessation (apnea) or reduction (hypopnea) due to repeated pharyngeal obstructions during sleep, causes frequent disruption of sleep and hypoxic events. The condition is linked to many adverse health

Pharyngeal pressure in preterm infants receiving nasal continuous positive airway pressure [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood - Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 2004
Pharyngeal pressures in 11 preterm infants, receiving binasal Hudson prong continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) pressurised by bubbling bottles, were measured. The mean (95% confidence interval) pressure drop from the prongs to the pharynx was 3.2 (2.6 to 3.7) cm H2O with mouths open and 2.2 (1.6 to 2.8) cm H2O with mouths closed.

Semi-Automated Nasal PAP Mask Sizing using Facial Photographs

open access: yes, 2017
We present a semi-automated system for sizing nasal Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) masks based upon a neural network model that was trained with facial photographs of both PAP mask users and non-users.

Domiciliary nasal respiratory support : first experiences in Malta [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Nasal respiratory support is a non-invasive alternative to conventional assisted ventilation with endotracheal intubation, or the more cumbersome negative pressure ventilators.

Physiopathological rationale of using high-flow nasal therapy in the acute and chronic setting: A narrative review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Chronic lung disease and admissions due to acute respiratory failure (ARF) are becoming increasingly common. Consequently, there is a growing focus on optimizing respiratory support, particularly non-invasive respiratory support, to manage these ...
