It was Hirschmann in 1903 who used a modified cystoscope for diagnostic purposes in nose and sinus. Later on Reichert (1902), Valentin (1903) and Sargnon (1908) also used the endoscopic technique for the removal of foreign bodies and opening of cysts. To clarify the role of nasal endoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with nasal or sinus complaints, 100 consecutive new patients were evaluated. Patients were excluded if their only complaint was obstruction and they had a septal deviation as the only clinical finding.
