Viridicatol from the Deep‐Sea‐Derived Fungus Alleviates Bone Loss by Targeting the Wnt/SHN3 Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Viridicatol (VDC), isolated from the deep‐sea‐derived fungus, enhances osteogenesis in vitro and in vivo by targeting Wnt/SHN3 signaling pathway. It can be delivered via engineered nanovesicles to mitigate bone loss of osteoporosis, fracture repair, and osteogenesis imperfecta.

Craniogenetic studies in Sus scrofa: With emphasis on the ‘orbitosphenoid’ problem

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The orbitosphenoid is a skeletal element of the endocranium of extant mammals. However, it has also been described in many of their fossil ancestors. Craniogenetic studies show that it is composed of two types of bone: first, the cartilaginous ala orbitalis and parts of the trabecular plate are transformed by endochondral ossification; second,

A Repair Technique for Internal Nasal Valve Collapse Using Lateral Nasal Suspension Sutures

open access: yesBioengineering
One of the most common reasons a patient would see an otolaryngologist is for nasal obstruction. This article provides an overview of the physical principles related to nasal airflow as well as the critical role that the internal nasal valve plays in ...

An adjoint-based approach for the surgical correction of nasal septal deviations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Deviations of the septal wall are widespread anatomic anomalies of the human nose; they vary significantly in shape and location, and often cause the obstruction of the nasal airways. When severe, septal deviations need to be surgically corrected by ear-nose-throat (ENT) specialists.

Single‐Cell Sequencing‐Guided Annotation of Rare Tumor Cells for Deep Learning‐Based Cytopathologic Diagnosis of Early Lung Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an innovative method to generate high‐quality, objectively annotated cytology datasets without relying on expert involvement. Large‐scale single‐cell DNA sequencing is used as an objective ground truth of cell annotation for generating an accurate, unbiased dataset of exfoliated tumor cells from bronchoalveolar lavage cytology ...

Embryonic cranial cartilage defects in the Fgfr3Y367C/+ mouse model of achondroplasia

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Achondroplasia, the most common chondrodysplasia in humans, is caused by one of two gain of function mutations localized in the transmembrane domain of fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) leading to constitutive activation of FGFR3 and subsequent growth plate cartilage and bone defects.

What is the Impact of Positive Airway Pressure in Nasal Polyposis? An Experimental Study

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2019
Introduction It has been hypothesized that increasing the interstitial hydrostatic pressure within the sinonasal mucosa of patients with nasal polyposis (NP) might decrease the size of nasal polyps.
