CFD simulations of turbulent flow in the human upper airways [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this paper, investigations are conducted using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence models to investigate the importance of turbulence modelling for nasal inspiration at a constant flow rate of 250 ml/s. Four different, standard turbulence models are tested in a model geometry based on pre-operative CT images of a selected obstructive ...

Semi-Automated Nasal PAP Mask Sizing using Facial Photographs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present a semi-automated system for sizing nasal Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) masks based upon a neural network model that was trained with facial photographs of both PAP mask users and non-users. It demonstrated an accuracy of 72% in correctly sizing a mask and 96% accuracy sizing to within 1 mask size group.

Nasal obstruction in children

open access: yesEuropean Annals of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Diseases, 2016
Nasal obstruction is a very frequent symptom in children, with numerous etiologies. Clinical diagnosis is straightforward, but general impact and rare etiologies should be explored for. Complementary examinations are guided by diagnostic orientation.

Evolution of CTAB/NaSal Micelles: Structural Analysis by SANS [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Surfactants are amphiphilic molecules that spontaneously self-assemble in aqueous solution into various ordered and disordered phases. Under certain conditions, one-dimensional structures in the form of long, flexible wormlike micelles can develop. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) is one of the most widely studied surfactants, and in the presence ...
