Fifty-six patients undergoing different types of nasal surgery were packed at the end of their procedures with an absorbable type of packing (oxicel, surgicel) only. Details of the packing technique in vertical layers are presented. Patients were followed up closely for a variable length of time.

Although nasal packing is necessary in most nasal septal, inferior turbinate, or sinus surgery, the eventual removal of the pack can cause a short but significant period of pain for the patient. A new nasal pack design and technique for removal of this pack are presented.
