A case against nasal packing. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, 1978
AbstractNasal packing is included in most technical descriptions of septal and rhinoplasty surgery with little accompanying discussion of its indications and possible pitfalls. We believe that routine nasal packing is not an innocuous step. There are certain specific indications for its use but these are uncommon. We suggest that exclusion of packing is

Characterization of Microplastics in Human Gastric Cancer and Control Tissues and Analysis of Associated Genetic Features

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the presence of microplastics in human normal gastric, para‐tumor, and gastric tumor tissue and confirms the association between microplastic exposure and lymph node metastasis in gastric cancer. This study explores the transcriptomic changes induced by microplastic exposure, laying the foundation for further investigation into

Routine nasal packing follwoing nasal surgery—Is it necessary?

open access: yesIndian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, 2005
The practice of routine nasal packing after nasal surgery is usually customary and not evidence based. Post operative complications, while uncoumon, are sometimes pack related. A retrospective analysis of 110 patients who underwent a variety of nasal operations was performed to determine the incidence of complications when nasal packs were not ...

Colloidal Heterostructures Enable Interfacial Transport of Immiscible Molecules in Printable Organohydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Multiphase printable organohydrogels with tunable microstructures are developed to control molecular transport pathways for immiscible cargo. The tortuosity and domain size of the colloidal phases are tuned by adjusting temperature and shear during processing, which enables the tailoring of diffusion kinetics due to different transport pathways.

Mapping surgical coordinates of the sphenopalatine foramen : surgical navigation study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims to identify measurements that may help intra operative localisation of the sphenopalatine foramen. The study used three dimensional surgical navigation software to study radiological anatomy, in order to define the distances and angulations between ...

High‐Concentration Antibody Formulation via Solvent‐Based Dehydration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous solid antibodies are encapsulated into hydrogel microparticles through a solvent‐based dehydration process. The solvent extracts water from antibody solution droplets, causing the antibody to concentrate, and precipitation of the antibody into amorphous solid is induced.

Nonmulberry Silk Fibroin Doping Boosts Charge Transfer and Charge Injection in Aligned Polypyrrole‐Silk Scaffolds for Low‐Voltage Neurostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Conductive silk‐polypyrrole scaffolds couple redox stability with cell‐affinitive peptides present innately in an endogenous silk fibroin, enabling optimized electrical stimulation to drive neurite outgrowth. Findings establish electrochemical‐biological link for biomaterial design rules for smart nerve guidance conduits that can provide low voltage ...

Assessment of Nasal Airflow and Pain, Safety and Cost of an Improvised Nasal Airway (Nasogastric) Tube After Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

open access: yesPhilippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, 2020
Objective: To compare subjective nasal airflow and overall pain score (as well as safety and added cost of) using an improvised nasal airway tube (nasogastric tube) versus nasal packing after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for chronic rhinosinusitis with

Assessing the Spatial Relationship Between Fixation and Foveal Specializations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Increased cone photoreceptor density, an avascular zone (FAZ), and the displacement of inner retinal neurons to form a pit are distinct features of the human fovea.

Structural and Functional Characterization of EXPO‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, 3D electron tomography (ET), cryo‐ET, and immunogold transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to characterize plant extracellular vesicles (EVs) under physiological conditions. EVs are classified into three distinct categories according to their size, content, and molecular‐marker profiles. Furthermore, Exo70E2‐positive medium
