Glycosoaminoglycans in nasal polyps
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2005The qualitative and quantitative compositions of GAGs were comparable in all the polyps examined.Glycosoaminoglycans (GAGs) are an integral component of proteoglycans, which are constituents of connective tissue. The qualitative and quantitative compositions of GAGs occurring in proteoglycans determine their biological role.

Th2 inflammatory responses in the development of nasal polyps and chronic rhinosinusitis.
Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2020PURPOSE OF REVIEW Pathogenesis of nasal polyp has been largely studied based on innate and adaptive immunity of sinonasal mucosa. So far, various factors have been identified that trigger an inflammatory response in the pathogenesis of nasal polyps.

Three specimens of simple nasal polyps which were examined in a routine histopathology laboratory contained tubereuloid granulomas. One of these patients was found to have systemic sarcoidosis. The other two continue to be asymptomatic and in one of these rupture of cystic nasal mucous glands with the liberation of epithelial mucin into the stroma ...

The Nasal Reactivity in Patients with Nasal Polyps
ORL, 1994Nasal polyposis is a common clinical problem. The polyps commonly arise from the ethmoid sinuses and the etiology is still poorly understood. There is a connection between nasal polyps and asthma, cystic fibrosis and aspirin intolerance, but it is unclear whether there is a connection between nasal polyps and nasal hyperreactivity.

Nasal polyps are found in 36% of patients with aspirin intolerance, 7% of those with asthma, 0.1% in children, and about 20% in those with cystic fibrosis. Other conditions associated with nasal polyps are Churg-Strauss Syndrome, allergic fungal sinusitis, and cilia dyskinetic syndrome, (Kartagener's) and Young Syndrome.

Abstract The ancients were well aware of the presence of nasal polyps and of the problems which they presented, and they devised ingenious methods for their removal. The evaluation of the present knowledge of the etiology and treatment of nasal polyps must be viewed with a degree of skepticism engendered by a lack of unanimity of opinion.

Hydroxyproline levels in nasal polyps [PDF]
The aim of this study was to evaluate hydroxyproline levels in nasal specimens from patients with nasal polyps, and to examine hydroxyproline levels after nasal steroid spray and oral steroid treatments. This study was performed on 41 patients. The subjects were divided into four groups: no medication group (group A, n 11), oral methylprednisolone ...
