Comparison of Continuous‐Time Random Walk and Fractional Order Calculus Diffusion Models for Preoperative Breast Lesion Characterization: Diagnosis, Biomarker Prediction and Molecular Subtyping

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accurate preoperative characterization of breast lesions is important for individualized management. The conventional monoexponential (Mono) model has limited ability to capture the complex microstructure of lesions. Non‐Gaussian diffusion models, including continuous‐time random walk (CTRW) and fractional‐order calculus (FROC), may

Pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage and patterns of penicillin resistance in young children in Fiji.

open access: yes, 2006
BACKGROUND: Little is known about nasopharyngeal carriage and the patterns of antibiotic resistance of pneumococci in Pacific nations. We set out to document pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage and associated risk factors, antimicrobial resistance and ...

MRI‐Derived Lymph Node Characteristics for Risk Stratification of Distant Metastasis in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background MRI‐derived nodal features may improve prognostication beyond TNM staging, but distant‐metastasis risk models remain limited. Purpose To develop and internally validate an MRI model for distant metastasis prediction in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA‐NPC). Study Type Retrospective.

Comparison of Six‐ and Three‐Dimensional Error Corrections for the Planning Target Volume in Patients With Nasopharyngeal Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
6D correction for CBCT achieves better dose coverage of target tumour volume than 3D correction in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. 6D correction significantly improved the dose coverage of PTV‐low at 5 weeks after treatment as compared to 3D correction.

Back to the future? Drastic drop in serotype 19A carriage in daycare centers within two years after a second switch to PCV13 in Belgium

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) reduce Streptococcus pneumoniae infection and carriage. After switching from PCV13 to PCV10 in 2015–2016, Belgium switched back to PCV13 in 2019.

Heterogeneity Analyzed by CT‐Based Habitat Analysis for Clinical Management of Cancers: A Narrative Review

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tumors are highly heterogeneous, and whole‐lesion radiomics analysis is a popular method for extracting texture features that reflect this heterogeneity, which can be used to build models for cancer diagnosis, staging, therapy response evaluation, and prognosis prediction.

Invention of the Flexible Fiberoptic Nasopharyngolaryngoscope: Perspectives From the East

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The fiberoptic nasopharyngolaryngoscope was developed in 1967 by Drs. Masayuki Sawashima, Hajime Hirose, and Osamu Fujimura at the University of Tokyo's Research Institute of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (RILP), building on Dr. Shigeto Ikeda's 1962 fiberoptic bronchoscope during Japan's postwar surge in technological innovation.
