Effect of exercise‐related nasopharyngeal disorders on upper airway function in racehorses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Exercise‐related upper respiratory tract (URT) disorders are frequently diagnosed in racehorses. Treatment recommendations are routinely based on subjective assessment of clinical evaluation and exercising endoscopy findings. Objectives To objectively investigate how palatal instability (PI), intermittent dorsal displacement of the ...

Pneumocoele sinus: Computed tomographic findings and surgical approach in a 2‐year‐old Cob filly

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Pneumosinus dilatans and pneumocoele sinus describe abnormal hyperpneumatisation of paranasal sinuses, with the latter being accompanied by thinning of bony walls. Although recognised in human and equine medicine, to the authors' knowledge, this condition's computed tomography (CT) findings and successful surgical approach in horses

GO classification of pneumococcal genes differentially up-regulated in the nasopharynx and blood of mice.

open access: yes, 2015
Molecular functional categories of genes (A), up-regulated in the nasopharynx, and (B), up-regulated in the blood. (C and D), Biological process categories of up-regulated genes in the nasopharynx (C), and up-regulated genes in the blood (D).

Single‐stage orthognathic correction of campylorrhinus lateralis in foals using transection and fixation: Surgical description and outcome of four horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Campylorrhinus lateralis (‘wry nose’) is a rare congenital maxillofacial deformity of foals resulting in compromise of the airway and severe class 4 malocclusion. Various surgical techniques to correct the deformity have been described, but contemporary data on single‐stage transection and fixation, including use of a rib graft, and

Genetic variants of EcPV2 E6 and E7 in equine genital and oronasal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Since its discovery in 2008, equine papillomavirus type 2 (EcPV2) has been detected in up to 100% of equine genital and up to 40% of equine oronasal squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Preliminary sequence data point to the existence of EcPV2 E6 and E7 oncogene variants compared to the British reference sequence from 2008.

Warmed intravenous fluid administration attenuated a reduction in body temperature in anaesthetised horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Peri‐anaesthetic hypothermia is a well‐documented complication of general anaesthesia and is associated with prolonged recovery, impaired wound healing, and delayed coagulation. Fluid warmers can be used to mitigate heat loss, but there is little evidence supporting their effectiveness in equine anaesthesia.

A Computed Tomography Radiomics Approach for Assessing the T Cell‐Inflamed Gene Expression Profile in Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Its Association With Immunotherapy Response

open access: yesHealth Care Science, EarlyView.
The T cell‐inflamed gene expression profile (GEP) provides a biomarker for immunotherapy response across various cancers. We established a CT‐based radiomics model to predict the T cell‐inflamed GEP and immunotherapy response in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

The Role of Multicancer Early Detection Tests in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Case Series

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) lacks an established screening program, and most cases are diagnosed at advanced stages. Multi‐cancer early detection (MCED) blood‐based assays represent a promising approach, yet real‐world clinical experience with MCED‐identified HNSCC remains limited.

Solitary fibrous tumor of nasopharynx: A case report

open access: yes, 2004
Purpose: Solitary fibrous tumor initially described as a pleural tumor is a neoplasm with characteristic features of uniform spindle cells, broad hyalinized fibers and numerous vascular channels, revealing mostly "patternless pattern". A rare location of

Exploring the Effects of Frailty and Sarcopenia on Dysphagia in Head and Neck Cancer: A Scoping Review

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Frailty and sarcopenia may influence head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment outcomes, including dysphagia. Current understanding of this relationship, however, remains limited. This scoping review aimed to synthesize existing evidence on the relationship between frailty and/or sarcopenia and dysphagia in adults with HNC.
