Seyyed Hossein Nasr was born in Tehran, in 1933 into a Shi’i family of Ulamā and educators. He received his early education in religion and literature in his native city, Tehran. Later, he chose to study physics and mathematics in the United States, where he received his BSc with Honours in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1954.
