Genetic analysis of members of the species Oropouche virus and identification of a novel M segment sequence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Oropouche virus (OROV) is a public health threat in South America, and in particular Northern Brazil, causing frequent outbreaks of febrile illness.

Patch and Landscape Predictors of Mammal Diversity and Their Trait‐Relationships in the Largest Atlantic Forest Island in Brazil

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Urbanization and habitat fragmentation reshape mammal communities on Santa Catarina Island, one of the largest Atlantic Forest islands in Brazil. Using camera traps across protected forest patches, we show that species richness declines with urban and unvegetated matrices, while abundance increases in smaller and more isolated fragments dominated by ...

Reciprocity of support in coatis (Nasua nasua).

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Psychology, 2008
Primate sociality has received much attention and its complexity has been viewed as a driving force for the evolution of cognitive abilities. Improved analytic techniques have allowed primate researchers to reveal intricate social networks based on the exchange of cooperative acts and services. Although nonprimates are known to show similar behavior (e.

Avian influenza overview December 2025–February 2026

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Between 29 November 2025 and 27 February 2026, 2514 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus detections were reported in domestic (406) and wild (2108) birds in 32 countries in Europe. Albeit still at high levels after the peak was reached at the beginning of the current reporting period, the weekly number of detections has since ...

Tails of Biodiversity: Vertebrate Community Assessment in a Neotropical River Basin via eDNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 1, January–February 2026.
This study used environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding to assess vertebrate biodiversity in headwater streams of the Rio Santo Antônio basin, southeastern Brazil, a tributary of the Rio Doce. A total of 119 vertebrate OTUs were identified, with oxidation–reduction potential emerging as the strongest environmental predictor of species richness.

An open-access platform for camera-trapping data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In southern Mexico, local communities have been playing important roles in the design and collection of wildlife data through camera-trapping in community-based monitoring of biodiversity projects. However, the methods used to store the data have limited

Assessing the success of a horizon scanning approach in predicting invasive non‐native species arrival

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 1, January 2026.
We conclude that horizon scanning provides a rapid, affordable and successful mechanism to predict the arrival of high‐risk INNS. We highlight the importance of citizen science, including biological recording, and of local expertise for detecting and documenting arrival of INNS.

Fallen Logs Act as Natural Bridges Over Rivers in a Tropical Wet Forest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
We studied how vertebrate species used logs as bridges over rivers in a tropical rainforest. Most mammals present in the area used logs, but the frequency and probability of crossing varied widely among species, between seasons, and in relation to the dimensions of the log and the river below.

Microstructure and morphoquantitative study of pineal gland in santa ines sheep [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
