A Systematic Approach to Field Testing of Biological Products for Horticulture Is Required to Improve Food Security

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Food security challenges require immediate action to increase food production. Many biological products derived from plant, animal or microbial sources claim they sustainably increase yield, but there are concerns about biosecurity to be investigated before their introduction to the field.

The many dimeric faces of Lys49 PLA2‐like proteins: Conformational plasticity and membrane binding drive functional dimer states

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Lys49 secreted phospholipase A2‐like proteins (sPLA2s) are major myotoxins in viperid snake venoms, causing rapid muscle damage in envenomation. Beyond their clinical relevance, these small non‐catalytic proteins provide a model to study how quaternary structure and conformational dynamics enable catalysis‐independent membrane disruption ...

Does It Matter What Keeps You Awake? Effects of Two Different Sleep Deprivation Methods on Object‐Location Memory and Hippocampal c‐Fos Expression in Mice

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT In sleep research, various sleep deprivation methods have been used to examine the effects of sleep loss on memory. However, studies often overlook the distinct impacts each method may have on activity in specific neuronal circuits and memory storage.

Crisis Preparedness and Systemic Risk: The Role of Municipal Leaders in Disaster Risk Governance in Norway

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Psychology, Volume 67, Issue 1, Page 115-128, February 2026.
ABSTRACT This study explores how Norwegian leaders in rural municipalities attend to disaster risk governance and prepare for resilient response to threats from systemic, interconnected, and cascading hazards. Systemic risk management in the Norwegian municipalities will depend on the context and how critical organizational processes are managed by the

Vocal Complexity Constrains the Dear Enemy Effect: A Comparative Study of Coal Tits and Green‐Backed Tits

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study investigated neighbor–stranger discrimination in two sympatric tit species exhibiting contrasts in song repertoire complexity: coal tits (Periparus ater) and green‐backed tits (Parus monticolus). Coal tits exhibited robust discrimination, responding with significantly greater aggression to strangers.

Noise Suppression in Organic Photodiodes: A Comprehensive Review of Mechanistic Insights and Design Principles

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 3, 13 January 2026.
Organic photodiodes are limited by dark current and excess low‐frequency noise. This review synthesizes mechanisms of noise, links to three leakage pathways, and unifies measurement practice with device design. By outlining energetics, morphology, and interface strategies, it provides validated routes to lower noise floors and higher detectivity across

Fighting Fire With Fires: The Fire‐Fuel Feedback Effect in Canadian Forests

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Climate‐driven fire increases could be modified by fire‐fuel feedback, as recent fires reduce burnable fuels for future fires. Knowing the effects of fire‐fuel feedback is essential for more accurate projection of fire activity, which, however, has often been overlooked due to the challenge in its quantification. This study aims to project

Migraine and patent foramen ovale: correlation, coexistence, dependence. A narrative review

open access: yesHeadache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, Volume 66, Issue 1, Page 307-321, January 2026.
Plain Language Summary This review looked at what scientists know about the connection between migraine and a small heart opening called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). It showed that people with migraine, especially with aura, often have PFO, but it is not certain whether closing this heart opening helps prevent strokes in these patients.

Australian Real‐World Effectiveness and Safety of Ustekinumab for the Treatment of Crohn's Disease: Results of the AURORA Study, Including the ANZIBD Consortium

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 9, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Ustekinumab is an effective therapy for the management of Crohn's disease. Australia is unique, as ustekinumab can be prescribed as first‐line biologic therapy, and there is high concomitant immunomodulator use. Aim To evaluate the real‐world efficacy and safety of ustekinumab in moderate to severe Crohn's disease.
